I stated at one point, in a very privileged manner, on my ‘About Emma’ page that “My blog contains some entries that have to do with my travels – but not much. This is not a travel blog. It’s probably because I have had my own fair share of travel, and though there are still places I wish to go someday – I find that other people documenting their own travel bore me.”
Well, I’m about to change my mind, slightly. Because. You Guise. My awesome hubs has bought tickets to take me to Sweden for a few weeks in July this year. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I am so excited, and I assure you you will be inundated with pictures etc from this trip. Hopefully I’ll have time to do so in somewhat real time, but if not, you can expect a few detailed posts upon my return.
I haven’t been back to Sweden since I graduated Gymnasium in 2002… I’m so excited. I’ll get to not only see Maja and Svea’s faces… but OMG TOUCH them. They won’t be weirded out if I greet them by stroking their cheeks, right? I might just go full on reenacting “Hello, is it me you’re looking for?”
We’ve also started plans to spend a weekend with Svea at Sandhamn… hopefully Maja can join too, but otherwise we will do another get together at some point at least.
But one of the best parts of this trip will be that it’s an actual vacation, just me and Jason. The kids will be staying with family, so we won’t have to worry about them. We’ve not done a real vacation (i.e not travelling for work or going to see family) at all since we’ve been married for 15 years (or 15th anniversary will actually be while we are in Sweden 🙂 ) We never even had a proper honeymoon.
We haven’t solidified our plans for exactly what we will be doing, but we do plan to go out and about around the country and visit places like Axmarbruk (where my family is from) and go other places I haven’t been like Dalarna to see them make the horses… I collect Dala horses, if I haven’t mentioned that before? We may also drive into Norway and/or Denmark.
Some of my Dala Horse stuffs… difficult to see some interspersed on my shelves and some on the red cloth and blue striped bread basket.
Anyway, I didn’t think we’d be able to get over there for another year or two… We had originally planned on going last year before the sudden move back to the US. So it was a lovely surprise when Jason said we could work it out after all. He even was trying to set up for us to renew our vows on our anniversary at the church my Great Great Great Grandfather used to preach at. He told me about it and the difficulty he was having getting information and contacting people… Unfortunately I had to tell him it hasn’t been a functioning church in a long, long time… It’s a museum currently. But it’s the thought that counts. I thought it was a very sweet gesture.
So, now I’m all about making plans and looking forward to this trip… and in my off time getting ready for nursing school that will start again for me the month after this trip. Stay tuned! 🙂
